Anyone who has their own website is sure at least once they have found that they try to enter it but it does not work, and at that moment the following question usually arises: is my server down or is it my problem? Internet connection?
In this post we are going to answer that question by analyzing the main cases in which it may seem that it is down, but in reality it is not… and what to do if your server is actually down.
A DHCP server allots a dynamic IP number. The DHCP server has a group of IP addresses which can serve the purpose.
3 reasons why your server may seem down
We are going to see the three most frequent reasons why our site can appear as offline, when in fact it is not.
User PC or Network Problems
It is also common for the problem to originate from the user's PC or network. If it is a failure on the part of the Internet provider, it is usually fixed in a couple of hours at the latest, but if the problem is with the user's PC, it is necessary to verify that there are no firewalls or antivirus that may be blocking login to the site.
Blocking by the firewall
It is undoubtedly the most frequent of the three cases. Many times if a user reports that they cannot access your website or email, there is a possibility that it has been blocked by the server.
Servers that have a firewall can block an IP that for example is making malicious requests or that has many unsuccessful attempts to access a certain system (example cPanel, mail, etc).
In the latter case, it is very common that by repeatedly using incorrect login data the system blocks our IP, which will make it impossible for us to establish a connection with the server or with the sites hosted on it.
In Infranetworking our clients can unblock their IPs without our intervention, follow this guide to see how to Unblock your IP from the cPanel firewall .
Internet connection with problems
First of all, we must diagnose what is the problem that affects us. If our site does not load, the first thing to do is try to enter another site, for example google.com, facebook.com, etc.
If another site does load, then most likely there is a server problem or we were blocked by the server. On the contrary, if another site does not load, then it is quite likely that the problem is in our connection, in which case we must contact the Internet provider.
If everything indicates that there is a problem on the server, then we must contact our hosting provider, who will tell us if there is indeed a failure in the data center network, there is a problem on the server or we have been blocked by the firewall .
